Style Theory: Capsule Collection = The Black Ankle Boot. A wardrobe basic, fabulously versatile, can be worn with skinny jeans, trousers or dresses. They look great worn with black opaques, patterned tights or brave it with bare legs.
A year on year staple but each Autumn/Winter there are small changes which make the black ankle boot somewhat hard to keep up with. Styles now veer towards the 90s style of boot, with a chunkier heel and a rounded toe. However, I still seem to be drawn to the slightly more Western cowboy style of boot which, with a few tweaks, keeps rolling on year after year.
Here are some fabulous ideas of how to style The Black Ankle Boot:
Wear with last summer's ripped, boyfriend jeans. |
Love the wedge black boots with this season's must have leather trousers. |
Layer up your winter clothes and finish with opaques and black boots. |
Ankle boots and jeans look great with a boyfriend coat |
I adore the heel of these boots they look fab with dresses. |
Just a gorgeous look, love the boots and coloured fur coat, a style statement, so 2013! |
These boots work so well with the flippy skirt and check jacket, the proportions of this outfit are perfect. |
Dare to bare your legs. |
Toughen up a dress with a pair of high heeled boots. |
- A boot with a dipped front will be far more flattering on your legs when wearing a dress/skirt or with skinny jeans.
- Wear a heel, even just a small one the added height will flatter your legs when wearing them with skinny jeans, skirts or dresses.
- A gap at the the top of the boot around your leg will make your legs look thinner.
- Shoeboots are a flattering alternative to ankle boots.
The best on the High Street:
Ash @ House Of Fraser £155 An excellent basic boot, the front dips so is flattering for cheaper alternatives see Aldo |
Jeffrey Campbell Overholt Ankle Boot at Free People £128 These are slightly more edgy and are not real leather (vegan shoes) but I just love the styling and they could take you comfortably through to the beginning of summer |
French Connection @House of Fraser £114 Love the cuff on these boots would look gorgeous with a short black flippy skirt. |
Vince Camuto @ House of Fraser £145 Just fabulous for a rockier look with black skinny jeans and a faux fur coat. |
Jean-Michel Cazabat Wedge Boot @House of Fraser £276 Very indulgent but the nearest I could find to the beautiful Isabel Marant for H&M boots that are almost impossible to buy. |
Office Baker St Chelsea Boot £85 These are this seasons perfect boots, chunky heel and round toe, look fabulous on. |
Office Bravo Tassle Boot £85 |
Whistles Lucille Ankle Boots at John Lewis £120 |
Topshop Mighty Black Leather Zip Boos £45 |
Aldo Holberg £80 I have ordered these boots, they look fab on and are really comfortable. |
M&S Footglove Suede Wedge Shoe Boots £49.50 These again are gorgeous flattering shoeboots and at a reasonable price especially with the 20%off available at M&S at the moment. |

ReplyDeleteHi Michelle, I did reply a while ago but it has disappeared! I love love the Vince boots but have gone for the Aldo ones my conservative ways got the better of me! I love your NB trainers they look fab on you and you are right once you wear them it is hard going back! Xxxx
DeleteSome gorgeous boots here. I really like the dipped front style and just got some fab ones from Mango in a taupe colour. Lynne x
ReplyDeleteHi Lynne, I will most definitely check out Mango too and look forward to seeing you wearing your boots on Avenue 57 they sound lovely. Thanks so much for reading and commenting..I really appreciate it..just taking me a bit of time to work out Blogger, I am really not great technically! xxxx
DeleteHi, is there an e-mail address I can reach you on? I am a freelance journalist and I'd love to feature a pic from your blog in a feature I am writing! Can't see a contact link on the blog?
ReplyDeleteHi, absolutely, my email address is Schoolrunstyle@outlook.com.
DeleteThanks so much.
Yep I've done my dress and black boots look for this year. Infact I've done it twice. I had a Mums Christmas do the other night and out came another dress and another pair of black boots! I have to say, I actually thought I had a deficit of black boots but I started counting and I most definitely have not. I did ebay out my black Topshop Ambush boots out earlier this year which are very similar to the Topshop Mighty you have featured.
ReplyDeleteOh! And I think it might be time for me to give my pink coat an airing!
I think I have seen you posting your dress/ boot combo and it looks fab! I shall be following suit and wearing the look Christmas Day! I am desperate to see your pink coat bet it will look gorge! Xxx
DeleteOh I love the Whistles ones, I tried them on last time I went Shopping.... but I already got a pair from R&B this season. I look the denim jacket under the pink coat..... I got a denim jacket in the summer and still haven't wore it!
ReplyDeleteThat should say Love the denim jacker under.....
DeleteThanks! I think you are one step ahead of me with your R&B boots! I am finally catching up have been stuck in trainer land for a while which is great but not so good for Christmas do's!! Xxx
DeleteI love the Aldo ones! Let me know what they are like when you get them! They are exactly what I've been looking for as I love the contrast of the heel & sole against the black! Perfect! Ax
ReplyDeleteHi, I have them and completely recommend them, they are super comfy, have a good height heel (enough to give a little bit of height but also so easy to walk in) and they are low so flattering on my chunky old legs! I will post a picture to show them! Thanks so much for reading and commenting xxxxxx
DeleteI just bought the boots in the first picture but in beige suede. At half price in the Harrods sale and the fact I have wanted them for so long makes up for the fact they aren't black! Love your gilet and the pink coat over a denim jacket x
ReplyDeleteWhat a fab buy, I love love those boots and in beige will see you through to summer..perfect! I would love a little trip to Harrods sale I am sure there are some amazing reductions on fab clothes! X
DeleteGreat selection - I've got some fab Clarks ones but I'm also considering dyeing a pair of stone coloured Mango boots that have gotten a bit grubby as black is just so versatile. Hope you had a great Christmas and Happy New Year! Ax
ReplyDeleteHi Avril, Absolutely agree, I have some beige ones from last year but black is just so useful for winter..great idea to dye them! Happy New Year to you too xx
