Evening Spring Looks

Style Theory: Ease Spring/Summer 2014 into your evening wardrobe with some key 'on trend' items mixed with capsule collection pieces for a cool, understated look.

Spring/Summer 2014 is following in the footsteps of Autumn/Winter 13 in that style is all about dressing down a dressed up look. It is wearing a beautiful detailed blouse and heels with a pair of distressed boyfriend jeans and a biker jacket. Or throwing a denim jacket over a fitted, jewelled dress and heels. Juxtapose the smart with casual and you have the look perfected.

Here is some evening style inspiration from the fashionistas:

Maybe not the most practical look but I like the idea of sequins with a biker style jacket.
Layer your summer skirts with a plain sweater, denim jacket and smarten up with some fabulous heels.
A statement sweater looks stunning with a midi skirt and classic court shoes (a must when wearing the midi as it lengthens the legs)
Wear a white or black tux style jacket with distressed jeans and animal print courts.
A floral shirt looks great with skinny jeans and heels, add a pop of colour with a bright handbag matching a colour within the floral print.
When you have leather skinny trousers and heels on all you need a casual top for a laid back, cool look. A plaid scarf  adds some interest to the monochrome look.
Tuck your denim shirt into a midi or pencil skirt for a cool look.
Love the short sleeved coat over this look, a stylish twist.

Hopefully that has inspired you a little, I always find evening looks at little more difficult to get right mainly because I really do not like to look overdressed, my inability to walk in heels (I am practising and I will get better..!) and the fact since having kids my nights out are few and far between!

Next time the 'slip on' trainer...I love them and have finally found a pair to make my size 6 feet not look huge (I am very small with big feet!) Will be back with a rundown of the best slip on trainer looks and the best from the high street.

Would love to hear your comments as always, thanks so much for reading, 'til next time Frances x

  1. Ooh lovely street style shots - If I could wish myself into somebody else's outfit for an evening it would be the cute 'Je suis fan' statement sweater and full skirt.

Evenings out seem like a dim memory at the moment with a two and half year old ... I used to have a life - what happened to it?!

Frances wowzer that Topshop dress is amazing - totally love that find!

I've just had a cute baby pink and black pair of slip on trainers delivered from ASOS - I'm just a little bit in love with them. I can only do these more boyish trends if there is some some of pretty element to them - hence the baby pink colour :-) x

  2. Slip-ons look great on Fran! Are they the TopShop ones?

Love the short sleeved coat over the shirt. Can only see a pink one on Cos - would quite like a navy one.

  4. These laid back evening looks are just perfect for my lifestyle Frances! Most evening out for us are an early evening dinner with our daughter in tow so it's nice to dress up but the mix up of dressy and casual pieces means I'm not too overdone!!

  6. I think the mix of dressy with casual is a winning formula. I don't believe in keeping things for 'best.' I love your' choices I just wish I could wear dresses and skirts (bandy legs John Wayne would have been proud of) I will keep in mind, however, that the trend is for a longer length which I might just get away with. 7. I love this style, particularly battered jeans with posh shoes. I'm definitely going to try a sequin skirt with a jumper or denim shirt when I get rid of the bump! I'm coming round to those slip on shoes too, I really didn't like they but they are definitely growing on me!
