Christmas Party Ready

Style Theory: The Christmas Party outfit = An item or items of clothing that wows on entrance, is comfortable and has a 'un-mumsy' edge.

For me, this season, dressing up comes with a big portion of dressing down and a side helping of sparkle. Think embellished trousers or a metallic skirt worn with with a T-shirt, a suit jacket and a sparkly necklace or toughening up a lace dress with a biker jacket and ankle boots. It is all about juxtaposing the 'over the top' with the supremely casual.

Here are streetstylers showing us how it's done:
The lace top really works with the PVC leggings. To make this more wearable wear a lace top with ankle length slim trousers/coated black jeans and high black shoes.
The simplicity of this outfit works, the peplum is a great option for a rounded tummy. Wear it full length, not crop with black jeans.
These gold trousers are fabulous but maybe only for the brave?!
Black silk shirt and trousers, perfection.
Just adore this look, especially with the trainers but for a night out put on with leopard print high court shoes.
Love the sparkly skirt with grey T-shirt, long cardigan and ankle boots, laidback dressing up at it's best.
Again jumper and sequin skirt works gorgeously together.
Simple monochrome, sophisticated and stylish.
Fabulous trousers dressed down with T-Shirt and smart jacket.

Gorgeous D&G winter floral dress, this is a really hot look on the high street for AW13.

Now for a few ideas from the high street:

Oasis Silk Winter Rose Dress £75

This is a beautiful print, a great shape for women with curves. To avoid looking mumsey I would wear with a pair of opaque tights and shoe boots or mix it up with a pair of leopard print high heels.

Topshop Kimono Bloom Split Dress £49
This has fabulous reviews on line and will take you from AW13 to SS14 again wear with shoeboots and opaques.
Oasis Silk Winter Rose Shirt £60
Oasis Winter Rose Print Skirt £40
This is a gorgeous matchy matchy outfit that looks fab and edgy. You have the added bonus of being able to wear the skirt and shirt separately, pair the shirt with a pair of black skinny jeans and leopard print heels and wear a denim shirt with the skirt.

Monsoon Clemence Bodyshaping dress £68
This is from Monsoon and has a secret panel inside to hold you in. Is a beautiful print and be bold contrast with animal print heels or shoe boots to give it a much needed edge.

Stunning metallic dresses:

Anthropologie Flora Gleam Dress £138
A beautiful metallic dress, does all the work itself, keep accessories minimal and low key.

Love these trousers, beautifully styled by Boden with jewelled jumper and leopard print pumps.

Boden sequin leaf skirt £110

  1. Great ideas, I always find Christmas parties tricky as I don't like to buy stuff I'd only wear once. I really like the Oasis skirt as you could team this with denim shirt for a more casual look. I'll probably end up recycling something. Great blog Vikki x (aka MrsW)

  3. You look amazing in your dress.....love it with the leopard print heels! I am after a M&S pair of courts to liven up some of my evening looks! I love dresses but I find it easier to ring the changes with separates! I'm currently looking to brave a boyfriend style jeans with said courts and tux style jacket.....fingers crossed it works for me as I love this look on everyone else x

  4. Oh you look beautiful in your dress and some lovely ideas for the crimbo party. My work has a Christmas breakfast which is always tricky. Although it starts at 8am it's held in a really stylish restaurant in Borough Market, so I always feel the need to dress up and look trendy but not too 'night-timey'.

I like the idea of dressing up the Boden trousers or a little dress :-)
