Style Theory: Navy and Sky blue, a match made in heaven, simple, chic and sophisticated.
I am not too sure weather it is the constant sight of rain or my trip to Paris but at the moment I am constantly drawn to clothing in navy and pale blues. It just looks so elegant and timeless and can so easily be brightened up with a pop of pink or red. I have seen quite a few celebrities on the FROW of the AW14 catwalk shows wearing navy so I am feeling this is going to be one of 'the colours' AW14 so buy now, wear now and be 'on trend' for AW14. Thankfully it is a colour that most of us have in abundance in out wardrobes already so add a touch of sky blue to brighten it up.
Here a little inspiration from the Streetstylers:
Now for the best on the high street:
The Coats and Jackets:
Topshop Boutique Navy Wool Bomber £165 |
A fab weekend coat for the Spring, looks great with a navy jumper, jeans and biker boots/trainers.
Zara Wool Coat £69.99 |
I have this Zara wool coat and I absolutely love it, it is really thin so needs to be worn with lots of layers underneath but it is a great length and has a lovely swing belt detail on the back. It looks great slung over a denim jacket and leather trousers. It comes in yellow and a fab green colour too if you are feeling bold!
Zara Gathered Shoulder Blazer £69.99 |
A great basic blazer, I am drawn to the sloaney look of the gold buttons and puffed sleeves, Kings Road perfection!
Pair a navy coat or jacket with a beautiful baby blue sweater or top:
Zara Cable Stitch Sweater £35.99 |
Topshop Neat Rib Sweater £24 |
Marks and Spencer Autograph Moss Stitch Jumper £129 |
M&S had 20% off all knitwear today, not sure how long it will last but they seem to be running a lot of these promotions at the moment so always worth checking!
Jaeger at House of Fraser was £99 now £79 |
Zara Top £25.99 |
Wear the Navy Jacket above with a pale blue top and a pair of boyfriend jeans and pastel trainers/pale blue/navy shoes. Chic and elegant and positively 'put together'.
Or why not switch around make the pale blue your 'top coat':
Ted Baker @ House of Fraser Cocoon Coat £229 |
Miss Selfridge Collarless Neon Zip Coat £55.30 |
Zara Pastel Faux Leather Jacket £69.99 |
Pair the coat or jackets above with navy tops and jeans:
Whistles Micro Geo Silk Sweater £125 |
Boden Cashmere Crew Neck £99 |
Fenn Wright Manson Martina Colour block Jumper £80 |
I love the blue detail on the arms of this jumper, it adds interest, I would wear it with a pair of distressed boyfriend jeans and some leopard print/orange heels (believe me I think it would work?!) or for matchy matchy perfection wear with the boden shoes below.
Topshop Boutique Sheer Sleeve Top £40 |
H&M Silk Mix Jumper £24.99 |
Topshop Daisy Embroidered Mesh Tee £25 |
Then a few interesting blue trousers to mix and match with either navy or pale blue:
Zara Biker Trousers with Zips £29.99 |
I saw these in Zara today and they are most beautiful pale blue colour, I would wear with a big grey knit jumper a navy coat and navy trainers now and in the summer team with white trainers and a darker denim shirt.
Zara Midi Length Lace Skirt £39.99 |
This skirt is a fabulous 'homage' to the Burberry SS14 look, it would look so lovely teamed with a navy cashmere jumper and the navy Zara coat (above). You could mix it up and wear with leopard print heels for now and in the summer team with nude/mint or silver heels, a dream outfit!
Gap 1969 Destructed Sexy Boyfriend Jeans £49.95 |
These are my favourite boyfriend jeans around at the moment, I love the colour and the shape, buy just slightly bigger so they hang off you a little and can be tightened with a belt.
Zara High Heel Leather Shoe £59.99 |
How delicious are these shoes, love, love them!
Boden Pointed Pumps £89.99 |
The fabulous thing about wearing blue on blue means you can mix and match all these pieces together, shade on shade and your outfit will still look well thought out, coordinated and stylish.
My Style:
This is what I have been wearing over the last couple of days, first for a lunch out with friends, battling the rain but still wore my thin Zara coat, lots of layers underneath including a thermal vest...attractive!
Jacket: Zara Jumper: Whistles Scarf: Plumo Jeans: J Brand Shoes: Nine West |
For a meal out with my best friends, I thought I would try the skirt over trousers look, it is so 90s but I love it as it is a) super warm and b) hides thighs, they thought I looked a bit strange but I kinda like it!
Jumper: H&M Skirt: Zara Leather Trousers: Zara Boots: Russell and Bromley |
What do you think of the Navy and Blue look, do you have lots of navy items already sitting in your wardrobe? I think it may be my age but I feel navy is much kinder on me than black hence me new obsession!
Next time Culottes...Oh yes, they are back...I am ordering some so will let you know if they are workable this time round or not...at the moment it is debatable!
oooh I some great items here - I would happily buy it all. My absolute favourite is the Miss Selfridge coat
ReplyDeleteThanks Fiona, me too I would buy it all! I love the Miss Selfridge coat, it has been reduced and is such a fab price sooo tempted! x
DeleteThe navy & blue look gorgeous together!! Love the Topshop daisy mesh top...they have some great pieces at the moment xx
ReplyDeleteHi Michelle, they do look great don't they I love them on the top streetstyle photo, her jacket is divine! Topshop are looking good at the moment so is H&m I think they have some fab SS pieces xxx
DeleteSky blue/navy blue go so well together. You have some great outfits here. I particularly like the sky blue coat/ navy jeans outfit. The Boden pointed shoes are really nice too
ReplyDeletePaul
Thanks so much Paul, the Boden shoes fit the bill perfectly! x
DeleteLoving those Zara pale blue jeans and your styling advice of with a dark denim shirt. X
ReplyDeleteThey are fab, very Isabel Marant looking I saw them in store and they are on my wish list for spring! X
DeleteI love navy and find it works with so many different colours. Easier to wear than black somehow too. You look fab in your outfits too xxx
ReplyDeleteMe too when I was younger I wore a lot of black but now I am definitely in to Navy...my age I think?! X
DeleteLoving your new Zara coat and your flares! The navy looks so much fresher than what a black combo would here. And I've tried your coat on a few times now and resisted because I keep telling myself I would be shot if I got another coat ... but I don't know how much longer I can resist ... arhghgh!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sue, the flares are a welcome break from skinnies! I did debate about the coat but I missed out on the mustard one last year so I couldn't resist! The fabric is not great as it picks up every minute spec of fluff but I am ignoring that as I love the style of it! X
DeleteThat's exactly the reason why I keep putting it back. I'd have to go round with a lint roller in my bag!
DeleteHa, I know it is fuzzy felt board material! I am slightly lax so I just let everything stick to it! X
DeleteLoving navy at the moment too Frances & it looks gorgeous with pale blue. I love both your outfits just stunning.
