Style Theory: When shopping the sales think capsule wardrobe, items that will not date and are a little more luxurious in fabric. Or an item you love and know you will wear endlessly until that distant time when a warm sun reappears....
So with this in mind here are the Fashionistas styling out some key capsule looks:
The Camel Coat |
SS14 Must Have colour..Cobalt Blue, a stunning coat paired with blue top to toe, perfect! |
A perfect parka. |
One of my favourite Christmas presents the gorgeous Zara plaid jacket (a little more trend driven than capsule) |
So useful the grey sweater, layer it up or wear with a skirt. |
Understated style in a fine grey sweater..looks just gorgeous. |
The mighty breton... |
The breton dressed up |
Winter floral dress wear through winter to summer. |
Cobalt Blue dress from SS14 Topshop Fashion Show |
Cool denim dress, so useful. |
The flippy skirt. I love the black jumper and leopard print bag combination. |
This quilted leather skirt looks fabulous with black opaques and a black jumper. |
Leather/ Leather look leggings a AW13/ SS14 must have. |
And here is where to buy some the key capsule items...all in the sales..be quick though they are selling out fast!:
This is a basic Winter coat that will see you through season after season and camel always looks chic.
Blue is going to be big news in SS14 so for the price and the UK weather this could be worn so much through the next season and now you would be one step ahead of the game.
A parka will see you through the next few months and next winter, black is the colour to go for as it does not date.
I have this jacket and absolutely love it, it may not be, necessarily within my 'capsule wardrobe' but right here, right now I am enjoying wearing it so am happy to bend the rules with this one!
A grey jumper is a key player in a capsule wardrobe, it can be teamed with skinny jeans, a statement necklace and heels for a night out, or with a midi skirt, or patterned cigarette trousers....the possibilities are endless. It is a neutral, dresses down and takes the glitz out of an evening outfit (in a good way!)
This is such a beautiful sweatshirt and has a stunning silk back, it would look amazing with a statement necklace, a pair of distressed boyfriend jeans and high heel leopard/snakeskin courts for a night out. Or pair with a pair of skinny jeans and knee high boots for a classy but casual day look.
This necklace would look fab over all the sweaters on this blog could be worn casually or dressed up.
A beautiful and elegant breton jumper which again will see you though season after season, looks just as good with jeans as with skirts.
Florals are not going away for SS14 so for a spring/summer wedding or for wearing now with black opaques and black shoes this dress would prove a good investment.
Sticking my neck out a little with the cobalt blue but I do recall seeing the colour crop up many times in SS14 fashion shows so if you invest now you will be super 'on trend'!
I have bought this and love, love it. It needs a little bit of alteration but it is going to be such a useful dress from now through to summer. A denim dress with a twist...perfect!
These jeans are a fab fit, I bought a pair in black in the sales and I love the fit. The dark blue colour is very flattering and would look fab with a chambray shirt and a chunky cream jumper and brown/beige ankle boots.
As with all the Zara items, not exactly the best reductions but everybody needs a 'flippy' skirt in their wardrobe to pull on on a night out with a loose shirt tucked in and high heeled ankle boots dress down with a chunky jumper and a pair of knee high flat boots. Again this is another of my sales purchases that I cannot wait to wear.
Look so much more expensive that £25, fling on a jumper over the top and a pair of heels and you are ready for an evening out!
I have found my leather look leggings to be invaluable this Autum Winter and I know I will be wearing them into the Spring and these legging looks fab on. The key is to find a jumper that is the right length for you. I found a fine knit H&M jumper-dress that was perfect and so reasonable £12 I think. I am afraid I cannot see it online at the moment but it is definitely worth having a look around H&M for some very reasonable longer knitwear.
So a little delve into what is still left in the sales. And here's a few of my sales buys below that are available in some stores but are sold out online:
Whistles Cashmere Jumper in Navy was £145 now £70 Also a little gold necklace I spotted today in H&M (£7.99 - current stock) that looks fab with the jumper. |
Zara Shoes now £49.99 Love these shoes have had my eye on them all Autumn/Winter and when I saw them in my local Zara on sale I knew it was meant to be! |
My Style over the last week:
Jumper H&M (£7 in sale) Coat: M&S Trousers: Topshop Shoes: Zara Bag: Marc Jacobs
Jacket: Zara Scarf: Uniqlo Jumper: Topshop Jeans: Topshop Trainers: JL Bag: TK Maxx |
